Okay folks, this is sickening. My mom was helping a friend to prepare taxes. This woman makes roughly $2000 more than I do, her husband recieves $8000 a year in social security disability. Her husband has hardly worked a day in his life and he recieves social security disability. Anyone care to guess what their refund is? Well, about half of what she made last year is what. Which happens to be more than she put in. This is due to the fraud called the earned income credit. This woman could go become and LPN (she's a CNA) for FREE and make $35-40k a year. But she'd rather make $12k a year and get her EIC! Does anyone see a problem with this?! What's worse is she knows she could but doesn't care to make the effort.
Thank you Washington DC, for taking my money and giving it to lazy pathetic losers.
For the record, I am getting back $500 of the $2500 I put in (counting FICA, FIT and SIT.)
Posted by at February 4, 2003 11:06 PM | TrackBackI agree that this is wrong. This is just another example of how some people cheat the system and goes into the same catagory as welfare and the extended unemployment benefits. Its not fair that the working Americans have to support the Americans who wont get a job because they still have unemployment benefits left or make too much money on welfare. Not every person on welfare and unemployment fit this but there is a percentage and that is unavoidable. However just think of how much more people would fit this if we had a democratic president and a democratic house. The democrats want americans to depend on government. Do some research on what welfare was like during the Carter administration and what Reagan did to fix it. (and everyone thinks Carter is such a good former president....)
Posted by: cwilli at February 5, 2003 09:45 PMThis is a travesty. If only I could cash in on this and live that high quality lifestyle that $12k a year gives me. Oh, sorry - $18k - forgot about that big, fat gubment check. I guess I'll just be a sucker and continue to pay for my home in the suburbs and my cars and keep on providing for my family.
