From CBS News
National Muslim leaders at their largest convention of the year announced plans to register 1 million Muslim voters and make civil rights a top issue in any endorsement of a presidential candidate.
*Muddy Says* Um.. were you guys around in the 60's when the civil rights movement was happening, I think your off a few decades.
When they say civil rights, are they talking about the right to take flying lessons?
--END--
Muslim leaders made their first unified endorsement in a presidential race in 2000, backing George W. Bush. Many thought he would take a harder line against Israel, and, based on statements he made while campaigning, would protect the rights of immigrants facing deportation.
Muslims say they have been bitterly disappointed on both counts.
*Muddy Says* Yea.. ok lets think about this one. Side with God's Chosen people, or a group of wack jobs [speaking of Hamas and any nut job who agrees with them] who want all Jews and Americans to die. Well call me crazy but that's not a real hard choice there boys.
--End--
I think they should have titled the article, "yet another special interest group". Would have been more fitting.
Posted by: muddy at September 1, 2003 12:05 AMSide with international law or with illegal occupant forces is the rith way to put it.
Israel has no right to occupy the occupied territories it occupies.
Civil rights means having the right to walk in the street without being insulted by morons who don't see the difference between a libanese, a syrian, a saoudian, a pakistani, a kurd and a serb !!!
By the way we have no muslim interest group taking part in our elections in France.
"Muslim leaders made their first unified endorsement in a presidential race in 2000, backing George W. Bush. Many thought he would take a harder line against Israel, and, based on statements he made while campaigning, would protect the rights of immigrants facing deportation."
They should have done their homework, then.
Bush is a Fundamentalist Christian, and is from Texas. Why they thought he'd come in on the Palestinian end of things, or think twice about deporting illegals is beyond me.
Posted by: Lurker at September 7, 2003 02:01 AMYou forget he's the president who legalised the bigger number of illegal (mexican) immigrants ever.
+ His father has been very supportive of all the fundamentalist islamic movements involved in afganhistan
+ anyway clinton was seen as the one who betrayed the palestinian cause in forcing them to reject a peace plan ...
Wait,.. your bad mouthing clinton?
That's not the DF we've grown to love, he's pro Liberal no matter who we're speaking about.
:-P
