CAMP FOSTER, Okinawa — Marines gathered Friday to celebrate the Corps’ 228th birthday, which officially is Monday, at a cake-cutting ceremony and uniform pageant. The ceremony began with the march of colors and the United States and Japan national anthems, followed by an invocation.

Marines, dressed in period uniforms, appeared.

One by one, Marines came out and stood at parade rest in front of viewing stands for an abbreviated history lesson of each uniform.

After the pageant, the annual reading of the 13th Commandant, Gen. John A. Lejeune’s birthday message, was read, followed by current Marine Corps Commandant Gen. Michael W. Hagee’s message.

Commanding General of Camp Butler Brig. Gen. James Flock then addressed the audience.

“For many years, the Marine Corps has been engaged in some of the most fiercest fighting the world has ever seen,” Flock said. “But Marines don’t ask for war, instead we seek peace for all nations. And that is why for 228 years the Marine Corps has stood ready to answer the call to arms.

it seems facts end up washing away illusions and delusion.

happy birthday to all liberty fighters.

clear simple ... documented... sources available... I love that. Read that article and tell me what you think.

Posted by: DF at November 12, 2003 09:50 AM

The bias in that article is so thick you could cut it with a knife.

Posted by: skywalker at November 12, 2003 02:50 PM

nope, I tried. It was too thick for me to cut even with my handy dandy chainsaw.

"And now the administration is finding itself in an increasingly unhappy situation in Iraq, with its 130,000-strong contingent there the target of a sophisticated and lethal guerrilla campaign waged by foreign Islamic fighters and Saddam Hussein loyalists."

LOL, sophisticated?????
I am convinced beyond doubt that some complete moron wrote this article, hahahaha.
Sophisticated would be a multipoint attack simultaneous from various directions including air and land elements. These fools are planting A landmine in a wall traveled road. Yea, that's sophisticated.
I am convinced beyod doubt that some complete moron wrote this article, hahahaha.
Sophisticated would be a multipoint attack simultanious from various directions including air and land elements. These fools are planting A landmine in a wall traveled road. Yea, that's sophisticated all right.

hey Baby:

Did you mean to write that twice or did you just have happy fingers that wouldn't stop?:-P

sophisticated guerilla campaign...sounds like a triple oxy-moron to me.

Look folks, I have talked to people who just got back from there and are about to go back. The people giving us problems are terrorists. They've busted wanted al-Quaeda members over there for Christ's sake! They can't leave the country, so they are just attacking us where they can, plain and simple. They just screwed themselves too. What were they thinking setting off that bomb in Saudi? The the Saudi's just took the white gloves off thanks to that little act.

My infantry training is about as minimal as you can get without being in the Army (LOL) and I could mount attacks more sophisticated than what these guys do, blind folded with 2 men and one rifle who are also blind folded and have no ammo.

You know what people sing in hockey events ... The visiting team just lost ... And
NA na na Na

Na na na Na

Eh eh eh

---- ---

Bush just discovered more democracy would help. Gee wasn't it the second pseudo reason to get there ?

AS far as you guys you could not tell there is an elephant around even if you were alone with it in a corridor and it was charging you...

Gee.

Who cares about how sophisticated the guerilla is. Is this the point ? Do you need to be sophisticated to kill 3000 people in one day ? No just some knifes and cutters.

The thing is this gulf war is as big a failure as the first was a success.
157 deaths so far since may (remember, the fighting is over, the big aircraft carrier (can't remember the name of this kind of ship)). American ones of course. Italians brits not to mention irakis don't really count.
But that's not lethal and Bush does not care ... no no no.
Oh no !!! You mean he actually just said that more responsability should be given to irakis ? No did he just say just was france and germany and russians where asking him ? No can't belive it !!!

gee.

If you can't see the truth in that article ... What a fool was I to preach you ...

Stick to those you like ... it's always easier than facing the truth.

Following duty is being ready to oppose those we love when they go wrong.

"What a fool was I to preach you"

Well at least you got the "fool" part right.

"Stick to those you like....it's always easier than facing the truth."

My GOD...isn't THAT the "pot coloring the kettle black"!!!! Why don't you try looking in the mirror while you say that then maybe you'll actually be "preaching" to the right person for a change!!!!

Hey mrs muddy, no need to get hectic.
THings are simple. I'm right. I've been right from the start... Facts prove me right with each day passing. This you can't deny. You can just track back my messages. So I'm the one facing the facts here while you all indulge in fantasies about would be links of saddam with al quaida, would be WMD, would be democracy, would be support of irakis ...

Facts are facts. Polls are there. Reports are there. Deaths are there. 2+2=4

And I'm not especially found of Mr Chirac anyway. He's a crook.

So blaming and the like is useless ... It's just like screaming at arythmetics. There's no escape from truth.

*mrs. muddy picks up a shovel in an attempt to rid the manure*

Riiiggghttt. (mrs. muddy says sarcastically and continues in the same manner)

Ah, to be in the presents of greatness.

DF....how DO you do it? I mean being right all the time, that is. What an Awesome responsibility that must be. To know that the world will be a much better place because of you and your superior wisdom and intellect that you have imparted on the rest of us less fortunate beings with OUR lesser intellegence. What an honor it must be for you to teach all of us about the real truth this world has to offer. Please allow me to take this time to thank you...the master for opening my eyes to this whole new world....yours.

Look DF: All smart elik nature aside....you DO at times have some very good points BUT what you fail miserably at is telling BOTH sides of the story especially when it comes to the matters involving the USA. You present yourself to be VERY bias even if you can't (or won't) admit it - you are. You cannot get to the TRUTH by presenting ONE side of the story.

Posted by: mrs. muddy at November 14, 2003 07:58 PM

First, his calling the guerilla's sophisticated IS the point: it proves he has no clue what he's talking about.

Second, most of the polls you quote are from biased sources.

third, no, knives and box cutters weren't enough to kill 3000 people. If they were, there would be more large structures in manhatten, more people flying airplanes, and 2 more airplanes in the sky. Knives and box cutters simply enabled them to get the weapons needed to kill 3000 people, and seeing as how I know a thing or to about jet fuel (including up to how bad it tastes and burns on your skin) I can tell you that an airliner laden with fuel, is a pretty good weapon - it's not easy to get JP-5 started, but once you do, it's over.

Fourth, I know Saddam has links to al-Quaeda. How do I know? Because unlike you, I know people who were there. I know al-Quaeda has a heck of a lot more to do with 157 dead Americans (BTW, more people die in training accidents every year than died in combat in Iraq) than Iraqi's do. Imagine if we'd left Saddam in power and those terrorists had be able to easily get out of Iraq and into our country? You know how easy it would be for them to get those weapons and ammo into this counry? All you have to do is surround it with cocaine and heroin.

Fifth, WMD? We found JETS buried in the sand. We only found them because we were LUCKY! Imagine what he did with the incriminating stuff?

Sixth, "Major Combat Operations" are over. That does not mean fighting is over. That comment of ours was just idiotic and ignorant. There are aircraft carriers still in the region, at least 2.
And since you love research I am surprised you do not know that they are Nimitz class, nuclear powered aircraft carriers.

Seventh, how do British not count? 5k Royal Marines might argue that considering they capturing more than one city in Iraq.

Have you seen what the fighting in the cities was like? I have, and I know of at least one F/A-18 pilot who was ON THE GROUND who has been put up for a silver star for his actions. Not to mention the purple heart he got.

How about you tell me how many Iraqi's and Saudi's have been killed since May? You know why you won't give me that number? Cause it lends credence to my claim that we're fighting terrorists in Iraq.

You "facts" are circumstantial at best, and false at worst.

this article was to say happy b-day to the Marines. As usual DF has taken us away from the subject.
I'm removing the ability to comment on this further.

Happy Birthday my brothers and sisters in the Marines!
