Ed Koch Will Vote For Bush in 2004.
"I am a lifelong Democrat. I was elected to New York's City Council, Congress and three terms as mayor of New York City on the Democratic Party line. I believe in the values of the Democratic Party as articulated by Presidents Franklin Delano Roosevelt, Harry Truman, John F. Kennedy and Lyndon Johnson and by Senators Hubert Humphrey, Henry "Scoop" Jackson and Daniel Patrick Moynihan.
Our philosophy is: "If you need a helping hand, we will provide it." The Republican Party's philosophy, on the other hand, can be summed up as: "If I made it on my own, you will have to do the same."
Nevertheless, I intend to vote in 2004 to reelect President Bush. I will do so despite the fact that I do not agree with him on any major domestic issue, from tax policy to the recently enacted prescription drug law. These issues, however, pale in importance beside the menace of international terrorism, which threatens our very survival as a nation. President Bush has earned my vote because he has shown the resolve and courage necessary to wage the war against terrorism."

"President Bush was correct to oppose the Kyoto Protocol. The treaty would have exempted China and India, which have a combined population of more than 2 billion and are among the world's largest polluters."
I could not agree more. For the US to enter that treaty would have been like playing poker against a stacked deck. It was written specifically to punish the US. I have personally read the tready. Both China and India would have been exempted because they are 'maturing nations'. This would have caused them not to have to abide by the protocol and pay for the pollution that they would have produced. The US on the other hand would have paid dearly.
I am all for cleaning up our mother earth but I dont think we should punish ourselves just because we are the only remaining superpower left. Wow not that I think about it that sounds just like the left's agenda. Punish the US for being the only superpower left.
Wow, cwilli, great article. I have ALWAYS thought (even WAAAYYYY before 9-11) that homeland security was and is THEE most important thing to this (or any country) first and foremost. Anyone who grew up in/with the "cold war" should understand. I remember even as a kid, I always trusted Reagan (though I didn't understand much about the rest of his politics at that time) and his "star wars" plan because I felt safer knowing there was an elected Pres. who cared enough about our nation and her people to protect them the best he knew how.
Same thing now. I believe (in a simple yet perhaps, silly analogy) that "homeland security" is kind of like protecting your home. You can go out and buy/build a home and put Everything in it: computers and books (for education), your money and personal investments (for the economy), historical artifacts (for preserving history), not to mention your family....but if you don't secure your house through a security system or at least putting locks on the doors....your sitting ducks to anyone who wants to do you harm. Besides, if your nations security is threated and/or harmed, it is kind of difficult to "build up" anything else...such as the economy, education, and so on.
Mr. Koch also has an excelent point when he states that the Democratic candidates (except Lieberman it seems) doesn't seem to have a good understanding about what needs to be done about our security. Personnally, they all come off to me as people who are just playing the fabulously sick game of politics (suprise, surprise) just to give the people what they WANT to hear. Which is why so far Dean, in my opinion, has come off soooo wishy washy and with no substance....but hey, that's just me.
By the way, cwilli, do you have a link about the Kyoto Protocol? I would be an interresting read.
Posted by: mrs. muddy at January 12, 2004 01:55 PMMrs Muddy,
I am very old school in the fact that I have always thought that homeland security should be one of the only jobs of Government. Almost everything else should stay at a local level. This way if you dont like how things are ran it is easier to make a difference. Now I realize that there are obvious holes in this but bottom line is that I believe in smaller Government.
Also I will vote for Bush as well on the issue of homeland security and terrorism alone. Almost every Democratic Nominee said they would involve the UN in Iraq. That is an automatic disqualification as far as I am concerned. Anyone who would say that obviously has no concept.
I dont really have links anymore as I deleted the folder. The only thing that I can provide is a google search. However just be aware of the source. There are tons of biased opinions on the subject so try to get both side of the coin before you make a decision.

cwilli:
Wow, I think I agree with everything you just said. Smaller Government is definately a wonderful dream...think it will ever happen ? :-D
Anyway, thanks for the help w/kyoto protocol. I'll have to look it up tomorrow during some "down time"...don't worry though, I'm very careful about where my information comes from ...at least I try to be (thanks for the "heads up" though) :-)
Oh, well...
Good night everybody
Good night John Boy (hehehe)
Let's go Dean ...
CWILLI is really a disgrace on this earth
I quote "My Favorite Line is:
"President Bush was correct to oppose the Kyoto Protocol. The treaty would have exempted China and India, which have a combined population of more than 2 billion and are among the world's largest polluters."
I could not agree more."
THe fact that each american pollutes 100 times more than each indian or Chinese seems of no matter of cwilli so happy as he is to enjoy his priviledge of being born american.
And of course the fact that the US (and europe, who has signed the country) have polluted for 2 centuries and shown the way to earth destruction ... Of course gives them no responsability in showing the way to its survival.
"I am all for cleaning up our mother earth but I dont think we should punish ourselves just because we are the only remaining superpower left."
Oh pooor little baby ... Of course these days that's the only thing we've seen US government punishing itself for its faults... I've never seen it extracting by force whatever it needed with no regard for law and justice...
This protocol was taking an exemplary stance and it provided ways to speed up the transfer of green technologies to emerging coutries.
But of course you prefer everybody to die on this earth since you'll be on your way to mars.
Wow not that I think about it that sounds just like the left's agenda. Punish the US for being the only superpower left.
Sure. sure.
And take everything for granted as long as you can grab it, is just the right's agenda.

is something bothering you DF? Have you run out of truffles?
I disagree that the US pollutes 100 times more that China and India. Please provide where I can find some proof of this.
"And take everything for granted as long as you can grab it"
DF you dont know anything about me so what proof do you have that I take everything for granted?
Your like the retarded cousin on this board. Everyone just ignores what you say because we know your at a mental disadvantage.

TIMBERRRR!!!
I dont see how criminal justice records would scew left or right... I thought conservatives were the ones who believe in locking up criminals.
Posted by: bennyhill1978 at January 19, 2004 10:24 PMBecause you only listed people who are part of the Bush administration in some way or another. Since you didn’t provide examples of any other politicians criminal justice records (and we both know there are plenty of examples outside the Bush administration) we have to assume you knew what you were posting and therefore had an specific point to make showing the criminal record of the Bush administration.
If we were to list the criminal record of every political figure than we would have to create an entire new website. Therefore only listing Bush, his administrations and for some reason his entire family, you obviously had a point to make.
You want a criminal record to talk about. How about how Clinton pardoned the sentences of his bigwig criminal friends, who just so happen to have contributed to his political party, during his last week of Presidency.
You wont read about that on your obviously left wing website.
I agree, Clinton was as shady as the rest... I suppose my point is that Clinton did not market himself and his family as the moral compass for all of us to look up to, as Bush did. My point was the hipocrisy of Bush as he talks about his faith and his morality all the while his familiy is made up of a bunch of criminals who never get punished due to their CIA connection and his faith in Jesus ad doing right to your neighbor is obviously overshadowed by his faith in military might and political intimidation. I mean the S&L thing was a big deal, many hard working Americans were hurt by that. Neil Bush made out like a bandit and got a slap on the wrist because of his father. I equally dislike "Republicrats" like Conditt, Clinton and Dascle for the same reason of their dishonesty, greed and hipocrisy. It is just that in the case of the Bush family they continue to get away with these crimes against all americans and against american values. All the while lying to us.
Some of the illegal things now declassified and done by Bush Sr's CIA connected posse over the years include (but are not limited to) The hostages during the 1980 election that were miraculously released only 3 days after Reagan/Bush took office, The Iran Contra, The S&L scandal. The Bush Sr. Masterminded plans of installing brutal dictators like Noriega, BinLaden, Hussein, Pinochet, etc. The miscounting of florida's votes. Bush's failure to effectively prosecute Microsoft, Enron, MCI, Xerox, Tyco and others guilty of fraud. The Bush connection to Saudi money that to this day prevents us from taking real steps at getting Bin Laden. The current allignment with the Afghan Northern Alliance(the largest heroin cartel on earth).
I lump GW in with his father because 90% of the people in GW's administration are remnants from his fathers and Raygun's administration, the same people.
If i could believe the words coming out of GW's mouth i would love him. It's just that the things he says only add up to the lies and hipocrisy reminiscient of Clinton and other "Slippery" presidents... With the secrecy and paranoia of this administration, and with the abscence of a BJ scandal I would say it is more like Nixon than Clinton
