If Nader decides to run, his late start, lack of party affiliation -- he won't be on the Green Party ticket this time -- and the challenge of getting his name on ballots in 50 states weigh against his candidacy.
So does the palpable anger among many Democrats after nearly four years of a Republican in the White House.
Calling Nader "egomaniacal," veteran Democratic strategist Dane Strother said the independent would "have the same impact he had last time. He would hand the presidency to George Bush."
Democratic National Committee chairman Terry McAuliffe said he met with Nader several times urging him not to run because he could pull votes from the Democratic nominee.

I smell fear in Washington!
Muaaahahahahahahaha...
Smell the fear of the Democrats that is...
My favorite candidate is out of the race (Lieberman) so, it's either the Liberterian or Bush for me, I can't remember who the liberterian candidate is but I remember he was someone who didn't exactky impress me.
Posted by: skywalker at February 20, 2004 11:52 PMI have decided! I know exactly who I'm voting for. This November, I'm going to walk into the voting booth and do a write in. I'm going to write in the name of the man who some people call.......Tim.
Posted by: mrs. muddy at February 21, 2004 12:12 AMSkywalker, Do you think that if we would have had Joseph Lieberman for President that it would have seriously hurt our relation with the few remaining Arab countries that we are still 'allies' with? I mean with him being Jewish and all.
Not that it matters to me because he had some good points and I really dont care what the middle east thinks of us anyhow.....
Posted by: cwilli at February 21, 2004 02:24 AMIf the Democratic primaries continue to go the way they are, I'll be considering William Shatner as a write-in.
Posted by: Lurker at February 21, 2004 02:49 PMi hope nader runs- it will just seal the deal for BUSH
Posted by: KEVIN at February 21, 2004 06:51 PMKevin? Is that really you? Unless I'm blind (and I could very well be), you haven't been here for a while. How've you been?
And yes, it will be very interresting to see the impact nader will make on this upcomming election.
Posted by: mrs. muddy at February 21, 2004 07:42 PMcwilli: Honestly, I don't think his being jewish could do much damage to what relationship we have with the middle east. Nor do I care about what they think of us. I didn't like everything he had to say either. But if it were going to be a democrat, he's the one I'd want.
Posted by: skywalker at February 21, 2004 09:55 PM"Democratic National Committee chairman Terry McAuliffe said he met with Nader several times urging him not to run because he could pull votes from the Democratic nominee."
You know, I don't know how I missed that sentence when I read it the first time but man, that Terry McAuliffe - what a jerk! He met with Nader on several occations and urged him not to run? What is McAuliffe going to try next? To pay Nader off through blackmail or something? Assuming he *hasn't* tried that already.
I don't even know all that Nader stands for so I don't know if I would be willing to vote for him or not...but if Nader wants to run for President...why shouldn't he. It still is a free country, right? Besides, in a country that has countless of choices (not to mention opportunities) it's ridiculous to keep pushing on us only TWO political parties for our presidential choices. Screw McAuliffe!
Posted by: mrs. muddy at February 22, 2004 12:38 AMlet's go nader...
another term for bush is just what this world needs...
yes- ms. muddy- it's me =) haven't felt the urge to comment lately- but i've been ready away =)
Well, sweetie, it's good to hear from you again :-)
Posted by: mrs. muddy at February 22, 2004 02:41 PMOk, here a question and I'm going to direct it to Skywalker and cwilli....and anyone else out there who has served and is serving in the U.S military. It may seem like a dumb question - maybe even a "no-brainer" to some but here it goes anyway:
In the past 20 - 30 years, which political party do you think has taken better care of our military and defense? AND in the past 20 - 30 years, which administration has taken better care of the military and defense?
Just curious :-)
Posted by: mrs. muddy at February 23, 2004 09:37 PMThe Republican Party and the Reagan administration, hands down.
I was just talking with marine staff sergeant I know that other day about this very subject. He was in before Clinton took office and he was contrasting the differences before Clinton and after. It was especially interesting to hear it from someone who was there, but really he confirmed what I already knew.
Posted by: skywalker at February 23, 2004 10:13 PM"The Republican Party and the Reagan administration, hands down."
Yeah, that's pretty much what I thought too. Just thought I'd get the point of view from some military minds. Thanks :-)
Anyone else?
Posted by: mrs. muddy at February 23, 2004 10:22 PMYou should not have asked.
First of all Skywalker is 100% correct. The Dems are very known for cuting our military. In fact Pres Clinton raped not only our military but our CIA and FBI as well. Not just cuts but also his administration started a policy that said that our field agents could not rely on human intelligence from anyone who did not have a security clearance. Now how many terrorists have that? Therfore we could not use anything given to us from a 'former terrorist' that mixed in with the money cuts are the main reason why I blame Pres Clinton for 9/11. Then add the fact that 3 times Pres Clinton was offered Osama from the Sudan's (I believe it was the Sudans) 3 TIMES!!!. Did I mention he was on the top ten list then?
Didnt mean to go in another direction. But the Dems typically cut the military. Please do research on this.
Posted by: cwilli at February 23, 2004 10:26 PMThat's not mentioning what Carter did to our intelligence capabilities. Sorry Jimmy, You're a nice enough guy, and in so a credit to our state, but you're also an idiot and poor leader.
Posted by: skywalker at February 23, 2004 10:28 PMcwilli:
Thanks, I think :-/
"You should not have asked."
Sure I should. One only learns by asking questions :-)
"Please do research on this"
I just did. I asked you guys. And I'll do more research latter on my own. Look, I know what *my* opinion has been through out the years...but, like I said, I wanted to get the opinions of military minds on this. I've never been in the military....frankly, it would kick my skinny little ass...and I just wanted to get your guy's point of view - people who live and have lived a life in the military and NOT just go on my *own* view - someone who is outside of that world :-)
Posted by: mrs. muddy at February 23, 2004 11:58 PMI'll say this. As far as being of help to the military (giving us what we need, giving us raises, et cetera.) The current administration is probably in the top 3.
