The Passion Of The Liberal

IN THE DOZENS and dozens of panic-stricken articles the New York Times has run on Mel Gibson's movie, "The Passion of the Christ," the unavoidable conclusion is that liberals haven't the vaguest idea what Christianity is. The Times may have loopy ideas about a lot of things, but at least when they write about gay bathhouses and abortion clinics, you get the sense they know what they're talking about.

But Christianity just doesn't ring a bell. The religion that has transformed Western civilization for two millennia is a blank slate for liberals. Their closest reference point is "conservative Christians," meaning people you're not supposed to hire. And these are the people who carp about George Bush's alleged lack of "intellectual curiosity."

Ok, I must admit that I have a thing for Ann Coulter....

Posted by: cwilli at March 4, 2004 09:47 PM

I haven't heard alot from her but from what I have heard....she's cool.

I loved the line:

"Being nice to people is, in fact, one of the incidental tenets of Christianity (as opposed to other religions whose tenets are more along the lines of "kill everyone who doesn't smell bad and doesn't answer to the name Mohammed")."

LOL! That'll go down as one of 'the classics' in my book :-D

cwilli: I must admit, I too have a thing for Ann Coulter, which, unlike you I can act on.

Posted by: skywalker at March 5, 2004 12:09 AM

LOL. Your right, She's all yours....

Honestly I have yet to ever ready anything she has written that I have disagreed with. Usually she is right on the money, just like that article.

Put Ann Culters mind with Laurie Dhue's (FOX) body and you almost have the perfect women. That is as long as she can cook.

Was that sexist? :?)

Posted by: cwilli at March 5, 2004 09:45 AM

I'm gonna stick my nose back in here for a second just long enough to add fuel to the fire...hehehe...

"Put Ann Culters mind with Laurie Dhue's (FOX) body and you almost have the perfect women."

Did you guys happen to see the segment on "Fox and Friends" this morning where Laurie Dhue was shown going around the track in a race car? Aparently, she did 160 mph!

Now there's a woman with a need for speed.

Posted by: mrs. muddy at March 5, 2004 09:56 AM

I prefer Soledad O'Brien, but she's not on fox news anymore.

Posted by: skywalker at March 5, 2004 03:22 PM

I prefer Mrs. Muddy.

(yes I'm kissing up)

Posted by: muddy at March 5, 2004 03:43 PM

How sweet! :-D

Your lying...but still...sweet :-)

But how on earth are you going to break this to Elizabeth Hurley and Jennifer Garner ? They'll just be absolutely heart broken!!!

Posted by: mrs. muddy at March 5, 2004 03:55 PM

Well, Liz is very busy and does not read the site. Jennifer on the other hand, I'll let her down gently.

Posted by: muddy at March 5, 2004 05:31 PM

Fair enough. You work on Jennifer and I'll work on Michael.....and Jude, Dirk, Owen, Sean, Drew, Bryan, Scott, Tom, John, Conner.....

Man! I got alot of work to do - catcha later :-P

Posted by: mrs. muddy at March 5, 2004 06:28 PM

And yet, you 2 are still married.

Posted by: skywalker at March 5, 2004 08:34 PM

Well, I do have to admit...there *are* more to name but....I didn't want to come off as someone who sounds "a *little* loose" or "too easy".

"Who is Hutton Gibson?"

I don't remember reading his name in the article.
Anyway, he's Mel Gibson's father.

Bamboozled, feeling a little "Link" happy are we??

Posted by: muddy at March 6, 2004 02:30 PM

Ok...this is off subject but there's no other place to make a comment on this.

muddy, DF:

"Muddy's Mind is thinking : Salutations à mes amis en France. La paix soit avec vous."

Ok.....I got the "salutations" part and the "en France" = *in* France? "La" = the?

But for those of us who are familiar with 2 languages and *neither* of them being French, let me ask a simple question................

Could one of you two translate for me (and anyone else who is confused) exactly what in Hell muddys mind *IS* thinking????????????

Posted by: mrs. muddy at March 8, 2004 10:37 AM

How come no responses?

I feel like the kid in class who says really bad jokes and keeps telling them
because everyone laughs, only to find out during the silence that they were
always just laughing at him.

Check out the comparative presentation of information that follows:

Stalin

http://www.simnet.is/gudnib12/gudnib12/pax.htm

Joseph Stalin studied for priesthood in the beginning but soon his interest in
politic took over and seemed to offer him what he was looking for, power enough
to bring about his own philosophy how to run a country and how to rebuild a
society by changing it rapidly to the participation and ownership of the nation
and its people.

Hitler

http://www.nypost.com/movies/18807.htm

"The Passion of the Christ" aspires to greatness and occasionally achieves it,
but Gibson's willful blindness to the larger implications of his work is
somewhat reminiscent of Leni Riefenstahl - the brilliant German director who
never saw anything wrong that her masterpiece, "The Triumph of the Will," was a
celebration of Adolf Hitler.

http://www.spartacus.schoolnet.co.uk/GER1933.htm

Although Adolf Hitler had the support of certain sections of the German
population he never gained an elected majority. The best the National Socialist
German Workers Party (NSDAP) could do in a election was 37.3 per cent of the
vote they gained in July 1932. When Hitler became chancellor in January 1933,
the Nazis only had a third of the seats in the Reichstag.

Charles Taylor

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/africa/2963086.stm

The showman, who is also a lay preacher in the Baptist tradition, prostrated
himself on the ground and prayed forgiveness before his Lord - although he also
denied the charges.

Although the polls were probably the most democratic the country has ever seen,
Mr Taylor's critics say he bullied and bought the electorate.

Aristide

http://www.theaustralian.news.com.au/common/story_page/0,5744,8841977%255E2703,00.html

The son of a poor peasant family – his father was lynched when Mr Aristide was a
toddler, accused of using black magic to commit evil acts – he was taken in by
Catholic priests.

Although Mr Aristide won 90 per cent of the presidential vote, the turnout was
estimated at only 5 per cent, compared with the 67 per cent support he obtained
in 1990 in a record turnout and with no whiff of fraud.

Bamboozled:

"How come no responses?"

Well, I did read the one from the NY Post...and I just have to say, that Lou guy - not surprisingly - over analyized the movie entirely and (as the media usually does) completely missed the point.

Dude, no offense but I do not have time (and I'm betting not many other people here do ) to read ALL of those articles you posted links to. If there's a point you want to make....the floors all yours. But I don't understand the point your trying to make with all of those article links. Besides, from the few seconds I took to scan over some of them, they didn't seem to have a consistant theme that would lead to a valid point. Maybe I'm just too tired and I'm just *missing* the point? Maybe you just threw them all out there to see what people would say?

Help a girl out here :-/

Posted by: mrs. muddy at March 8, 2004 10:15 PM

Many of the links should be video, with no reading involved.

Posted by: BamB00zLed at March 9, 2004 07:44 PM

Bamboozled:

Did I mention that my system wont play the video for some reason?

Look, to be fair, I'll try again.

Posted by: mrs. muddy at March 9, 2004 07:52 PM

michael:

"She needs to get laid and losen up."

Are *you* volunteering your services?

"I'm tired of hearing her bullshit talk."

So don't *listen* to her. I mean, it's not like she's a politician where you need to hear her views to know whether you want to vote for her or not. Besides, so far - *you're* not being very impressive with YOUR "talk" either. Besides, she's got spunk as well as a feisty personality....and *I* love that in anyone.

BUT you're entitled to your opinion, of course.
