Two of the world’s best soccer teams – AS Roma and Chelsea – will meet at Heinz Field on Thursday, July 29. The game is part of the 2004 ChampionsWorld Series scheduled for seven premier venues across the U.S. and Canada.
“Pittsburgh competed against more than 100 cities to host this match,” Rooney says. “We’re excited to bring this international event to our fans and to introduce these two outstanding teams to our great region.”

Posted by: muddy at March 19, 2004 04:34 PMChelsea/ManU...awesome...Bristol Rovers?....not until they are a "premier" team.....LOL
Posted by: wolfgang at March 20, 2004 11:23 AMIt occurs to me that I couldn't care less! Soccer isn't my thing. I played rec. soccer when I was young but hated it. Then I started playing baseball and basketball and loved it.

*Gasp!!!*
Such Blasphemy! I'm appauled!
The funny thing to *me* is, growing up, I wasn't the girl who was into fashion but I wasn't the one into sports either (I was more of a choir nerd ). Frankly, when it came to baseball, baketball, flag football...I down right sucked!!! Got my ass beat MANY a time!! But when I was introduced to soccer....I out played every girl in gym class :-)
That felt soooo good!!!:-)
Posted by: mrs. muddy at March 20, 2004 12:46 PMThen there was me. I hit .426 my last year I played baseball, 40 stolen bases, no HRs that year (I don't think anyone did.) A load of doubles and triples. All this from a right handed first baseman who was told he'd never get past rec. leagues! (IOW, it's an object lesson in hard work.)
Posted by: skywalker at March 20, 2004 03:59 PMAh....good show.
The best thing I ever did in baseball was pray that the ball wouldn't hit me.....those things are stinkin' HARD! I don't care how *soft* they claim the ball is :-)
The only year I played soccer, I did make a goal as well as succeeding in punching a snooty girl in the mouth. Of course, I punched her by accident in order to keep my balance when I slipped on the grass. Funny thing is, I didn't even know I hit her until I realized I was the only one still playing :-) I loved my soccer :-P
Posted by: mrs. muddy at March 20, 2004 05:33 PMWhen I was 9 (in pony baseball, that's the first year a kid pitcher, pitches to you) i got hit almost every time i came to the plate. I got used to getting hit with the ball (still avoided it like the plague.) Curveballs suck though, they usually look like a high fastball until they break.

Break what? Your face? Geesh, all that and you still love the sport :-) Either you're a glutten for punishment or truely brave. haha :-)
Posted by: mrs. muddy at March 20, 2004 11:14 PMBreak == curve.
They're also called breaking balls. They usually break down and just slightly away from the batter. A slider is even nastier. Starts out coming straight at you and then breaks away from you.
Posted by: skywalker at March 21, 2004 07:41 AMAh....it's all so clear now!! Actually...no, no it's not but I'll take your word for it. Maybe that's why I never got along well in baseball....could never quite understand all it's terminology and sayings.
However, I do still have the 3rd base up in my closet as a keepsake from 5th grade gym class from when I stole it....guess that's something, huh? Come to think of it....maybe I should give that back.
