Tell us your thoughts on the 9/11 commission: What do you expect to learn? Who do you blame? Do you think the commission is necessary?
Don't forget how helpless we all felt on 9/11 - don't forget George Bush's words - we are on a mission to wipe out terrorism --this is all the explanation we need to be at war. Can you imagine if such a tragedy struck us smack in the middle of that Monica Lewinsky mess??? What would be the liberal excuse then??? God Bless our troops and God Bless our President.
I am sick of the 9/11 families. It is clear that they have a political agenda to help John Kerry. I wonder how fast for the women to collect their husband's life insurance and to throw away his belongings.
Who are these commissioners? One of them set policy which helped 9/11. The feds' intelligence caused 9/11. New Yorkers' response was admired around the world. Ex-president Clinton wanted to leave a legacy and wondered what it would be (Besides, perhaps chasing young girls). The legacy of him and his administration (which includes ugly b--- wife), is 9/11. Deal with it you Arkie hillbillies.
THIS IS MY RESPONSE TO THE COMMISSION,,INSTEAD OF BLAMING NYPD AND FDNY OR EVEN THE PAPD IS APPAULLING ,,MY BROTHER ED CALDERON WS MURDERED IN THOSE BUILDINGS, HE WORKED ALONG SIDE THE FIREMAN AND NYPD DOING HIS JOB,WHILE ALL ON THE COMMISSION WERE EITHER IN THEIR PLUSH HOMES IN THE HAMPTONS OR IN THEIR LIMOS COMING INTO THE CITY,HOW DARE YOU ALL COMPARE THESE BRAVE MEN TO BOY SCOUTS,,HOW DARE YOU,,I DONT THING ANYONE OF YOU WOULD HAVE THE BALLS TO HAVE EVEN BEEN IN THE AREA MUCH LESS TRY TO SAVE THE LIVES OF ALL THAT DIED,,STOP THE GRAND STANDING JUST TO GET YOUR NAME ON A NEWSPAPER,,THIS IS WHAT IS WHAT IS WRONG WITH THE COUNTRY TODAY,,
Many, Many more @New York Post Online
This shows exactly what I have known to be true: No matter what the media tells you, no matter what stupid poll they throw in your face, no matter what spin they throw on a story. The majority of America is fully behind the NYFD, the NYPD and President Bush. The majority of Americans will not tolerate any kind of political slant liberals try to throw on 9/11. I dont understand why Kerry, Billery Clinton, Ted Kennedy and the rest of the left cant come to terms with this.
Actually they will have 4 years to come to terms with it, another 4 year term for Bush that is...
You will see on election day. My predicition is that Bush will win by a HUGH margin. It wont even be close.
God Bless America and God Bless our Troops.
Posted by: cwilli at May 19, 2004 06:28 PMPersonally, I'm quite tired of the finger pointing myself. Yes, I know there are MANY questions that deserve answers BUT, we need to remember ONE important thing. What this commission needs to figure out in the end is to learn from all the flaws in the system and work to continue to make improvements where need (great, now I'm sounding like a politician). We ALL need to ALWAYS remember what each and everyone of us felt on and after 9-11 so that ALL of us can contribute (no matter how small and insignificant the contribution may seem to be) to making this country safe.
Ok, there are MANY things that *could* have been done to prevent 9-11:
-better and up-to-date equiptment for the NY fire fighters and police.
-better and up to date security at the airports
-better and up to date equiptment for the FBI and probably CIA as well
and the list goes on and on of the many people/organizations that "dropped the ball" and could have probably very well handled things differently in order to prevent what happened on that day.
But folks - let's face it - hind sight is 20/20 (of course with that in mind some people may very well be going blind ) and so when we ALL actually *LOOK* back to 2 and 1/2 years ago then yes, we have the time to realize things that we could have done differently. We see things - in some cases - that *could* have been done better. BUT in *that* momment in time, when a tragedy is unfolding in front of your eyes - you just react in the best way you know how and the best way you've been trained.
In the case of the NY fire and police department...it has been said -almost from day one *since* 9-11 - that some of their equiptment was not up to date nor properly functioning BUT these guys were used to taking care of their city. The magnitude of nightmares *they* had to deal with on that day.....well, ANY fire and police department of any given town in this country could only hope and pray that they could do as good of job as these men did. Yes, some equiptment wasn't quite up to par but considering the circumstances they were under - I'm personally DAMN proud of them.
Posted by: mrs. muddy at May 19, 2004 11:12 PMHonestly, the only way I can see it having been prevented, is the arrest a day or two prior to the event, of the hijackers. Shy of that, nothing would have stopped it security wise. The biggest problem was our lack of intelligence assets, a result of the church commission and the Clinton administration. Some would say the Carter administration too but he was just following the advice of the church commission.

True. I actually forgot about that one.
