ASTANA, Kazakhstan - Russian President Vladimir Putin said Friday his government warned Washington that Saddam Hussein's regime was preparing attacks in the United States and its interests abroad — an assertion that appears to bolster President Bush's contention that Iraq was a threat.

Posted by Skywalker at June 18, 2004 02:39 PM | TrackBackShocking, the left appear to be the most deceived body of people in the world. I'm not sure who's more delusional the American extreme left or the Muslim terrorists they love and protect.
Boohoo, Iraq was wrong. Yea, and cows fly.
Posted by: muddy at June 18, 2004 03:42 PMThey are not deceived at all. They are just playing partisan politics with this 'Saddam wasnt a threat' crap. They are still seething hot mad over the loss of the 2000 election and they will do ANYTHING to cause the President to lose credibility and possibly the 2004 election. Even if it actually hurts America. Thats the point that everyone is missing.
Posted by: cwilli at June 18, 2004 08:55 PMNo, I haven't missed that point.
Look there are alot of very responsible journalists out there, but by and alrge they follow a template: if it helps Bush, downplay it, if it hurts Bush, beat it to death.

I personally thought that point was pretty obvious myself.

Exactly. But luckily there are now a ton of news sources that have sprung up via the internet. Could you imagine if we still had only a couple channels on TV, no internet and the New York Times still was the standard de facto in printed news?
Bush would have already been impeached.
Thanks god for the Drudge Reports of the internet. At least there is SOME balance.
Posted by: cwilli at June 20, 2004 12:50 PMDon't tell my reporter friends that. They insist that it is pure coincedence that all of them are self professed liberal democrats.
Posted by: skywalker at June 20, 2004 01:13 PMDon't worry, if Bush is reelected, he probably will be impeached.
Apart from that I'll keep reading on the subject, but so far, still no sign of weapons of mass destructions (the findings mentionned are starting to be more interesting ... but still a long way to go till you reach even 10% of what was presented)and little democracy ...
And the question will for long remain open : was this invasion decision good for the USA (which is mainly your problem) and the western world.
So far there seems to be more not less terrorist activity in the region and more not less anti western hostility ...
Even though Putin is clearly not my hero (he's destroying slowly democracy in russia and conducting a "war on terror" in Tchetchenia which amounts to killing everybody in the region ...) I agree with his request : Come to a final anszer on the question of WMDs.
You'll notice that some people on this very website are comparing people expressing a different political opinions to terrorist killing others out of their beliefs ...
I do not think it wise nor fair.
Moore so far has not killed any body. I believe this is a huge difference
Besides he has never been proved as expressing lies (if there were lies... then why did no one claim compensation in front of the courts ?) ...
Posted by: DF at June 22, 2004 05:31 PMImpeached for what?! Hahaha I've heard that they're going to try but they need a majority in the house to do it (they won't have it) and for what?! To be impeached you must commit a crime and lying in itself is noa crime so don't tell me lying. clinton was impeached because he lied in order to prevent a woman from recieving her day in court under a stature he signed into law under much hoopla! In other words, he was impeached for perjury. His trial wasn't even a trial and was a joke. If his trial had been a real trial he would have been convicted. Hence why he has been disbarred in several states.
Moore hasn't directly killed anyone, but his propaganda can certainly lead to uplif the spirits of terrorists which leads to me american's dying (and more terrorists as they don't give up as easily.) Also...just because someone lies about you doesn't mean you can recieve compensation via a lawsuit. There has to be provable monetary damages and quoting someone out of context doesn't really meet that qualification under most circumstances. Plus, for a lawsuit to be worthwhile, you have to make more money from it than you'll spend. Again, not likely.
Sides, whoa re you looking to prove he's lied? The media? The same media who blatantly lied about what the 9/11 comission's report said? Sure. That's going to happen.
we already talked on the media... You know my opinion is that the US media is corporate media, all conservative. It might be liberal some times (progay, pro abortion, pro aclu ...)
But certainly never leftwing (pro minimum wages, social security, pro income tax)
Now I have respect for free marketeers, though I disagree with them. And I know some of you like to be close to libertarians ... not so far
So I guess you must know THe economist, authoritative paper, not left wing for one bit, pro tatcher and reagan and yet it is true liberal on social and political issues (meaning : pro liberty)

I appreciate moore's work, I believe what is being contested is oftten details and can be clearly seen as being humour and sarcasm. But most of all, if for instance he says Bush had deep links with the bin laden family and protected them post 911 ... If this is false I think it would be easy to prove before a court that the false allegations create a clear damage to the political image, chances of reelection and so on.
Now for the impeachment ... I have no idead right now on which ground.
If it were to happen I suspect a democratic landslide in midterm election (post an economic crisis for instance) with radical leaders (newt grinwinch style)and my bet would be the accusation would be betrayal.
betrayal? You mean treason? Treason is a strong charge and is the only crime defined by the constitution. It would be impossible to impeach Bush for treason. He meets none of the qualifiers.
Iwould say the only highly feasible things that could bring a true economic crisis would be a large scale terrorist attack or a major stock market crash. It will have to be a huge landslide though, as democrats int he house and senate aren't making many people very happy right now.
As for the media, our media shows itself plenty as pro minimum wage (i'm against it) pro social security (i'm for privatising it and allowing people to opt out) and VERY VERY VERY much pro income tax.

And I went along and read this on how this press is so conservative and can not see things through

(he gives several cases in which washingtonpost or NY times bow to the present administration.
