I was book marking news sites on my laptop today and google'd for "honest news" seeking other news sources.
I think the word honest has changed in recent years and nobody told me.
The first page of "honest" news source contained, Al Jazeera, Progressive-News.com, World Socialist Web Site and others that were to say the least, disturbing.
Oh dear GOD!!!! No *wonder* things and people are so screwed up!
Posted by: mrs. muddy at November 2, 2004 09:02 AMare you saying pravda isnt honest? i belive them more than i belive fox news.
whats disturbing? that you get news that you DONT see in "mainstream" news sources? doesnt mean anything is dishonest.
Posted by: mooseboy84 at November 2, 2004 10:34 AMwhat I was looking for is just the facts, no opinion, no innuendo, no slant... just boring facts.
Posted by: muddy at November 2, 2004 10:41 AMin that case then its bbc world news. Everyone has a slant, at least the big news agencys. i find bbcs coverage to be the most objective. now i dont know if they give a free pass to royals in england, but for everything else they are the most "objective". i also have to says that CBC candian news is also very good and objective.
now if your talking about NEWs you wont hear, then yea you have to look at alot of "alternative" sources. if i want news about iraq i cant get it from any large american news source. i have to look at papers from india or australia. the international hearld tribune is an Excellent paper. i dont read much of al jazzera, but certainly the asian times online. then you have your disinformation sites like pravda and world socialist. i dont take everything as truth but they have alot of intresting things you dont see anywhere else.
then theres places like exile.ru that always have funny and intresting editorials.
Posted by: mooseboy84 at November 2, 2004 11:26 AM"i find bbcs coverage to be the most objective."
That explains alot, Mooseboy.

There is no such thing as honest news. News outlets are in the business of selling ads, not reporting truth.
I agree that CBC and BBC are 2 of the most objective available tv news sources.
For news that will get buried by the corporate media, look to http://www.guerrillanews.com/
and for editorials (opinions) from real, globally respected intellectuals try http://www.commondreams.org/
The problem with living in the information age is there is too much information to be able to make sense of it. Google news is a great resource to see how many different outlets report on the same story (as long as you dont just read the top story)
If you want to see what is being pushed onto the public and what is being supressed, look at the Media Bias website. It is the most advanced technology i have seen so far to describe in real-time the stories that are being pushed by the media. It looks at many different sources (using google as a back-end) and creates a relational GUI giving more space to the most commonly reported stories.
truly a media source for the 21st century.

LMAO....Thanks I wont.
Posted by: cwilli at November 2, 2004 06:48 PMOnly a socialist would thing CBC and BBC are anything CLOSE to balanced.
They're both government run and show it.
Posted by: skywalker at November 2, 2004 06:53 PMyou guys are too funny. you crticize something, yet dont explain or go into depth.
how does BBC or CBC show theyre government run? please explain that? like i stated for bbc, i dont know what their coverage is like of the royal family or parliament, but for everything else they are very good.
please define how they are not balanced? first off i didnt say anything about balanced, i said "objective". what would make it balanced in your eyes? some gas bag talk show host talking about LIBERALS. give me a break, lol.
Posted by: mooseboy84 at November 2, 2004 08:49 PMI didn't go into depth because I felt it was self explanatory.
Mooseboy, you're a socialist, you can't possibly see a leftist slant. Left looks like center to you.
Posted by: skywalker at November 2, 2004 10:52 PMyou cant make an argument. i can see a slant when there is one-- you play this game that all conservatives play by talking about the "liberal" media, yet you dont quote specifics. on what coverage has BBC or CBC been "leftist"?
lets hear the "facts". on what story did they cover that showed a clear "leftist" bias. and how do you define "leftist" slant.
Posted by: mooseboy84 at November 3, 2004 01:13 AMMooseboy, that because an explaination to you, DF and Bennyhill would be pointless. It would simply be a waste of time. I dont fault you for that but, like sky said, you guys are so far left that you cant even detect a left slant. Again I dont blame you I think it probably has something to do with your childhood.
I actually feel sorry for you and will include you in my prayers.
Posted by: cwilli at November 3, 2004 09:08 AMoh how kind of you to not explain. make an accusation then provide no refference or facts to support. typical conservatives.
Posted by: mooseboy84 at November 3, 2004 02:32 PMWell mooseboy, I'll start pointing out the specifics of their slant when you point out the specifics of Fox News' slant.
Posted by: skywalker at November 3, 2004 05:42 PMlike i said, you have nothing to say. all you are is hot air. brit hume has said fox news definatley has the "conservative slant". ive seen him say that before. now if you dont belive me you can go and pay for a lexus nexis search.
now what do you have to say about bbc or cbcs "liberal" slant or bias. put up or shut up.
Posted by: mooseboy84 at November 4, 2004 10:28 AMkinda feel like I am watching a tennis match. :-/
Posted by: muddy at November 4, 2004 02:01 PMI said specifics, not he said she said.
