LOS ANGELES (CBS) Authorities were investigating a Los Angeles police shooting that left an unarmed 13-year-old suspect dead early Sunday in South Los Angeles....

*Editors note* I wonder How many lives were saved because this kid was killed? Other articles mentioned he was a gang member, hence the reference to him as a gang member.
Posted by Skywalker at February 7, 2005 08:18 PM | TrackBackhmmmm... shock and anger over a 13 year old driving a car, being chased by police and ramming them.. then being shot to death.
One can only assume that the shock and anger are directed to the child's parents.
(or lack thereof)
Posted by: Muddy at February 7, 2005 09:17 PMOk....his father died last year and where is his mother? Other family members? Who the hell was taking care of this poor kid? A gifted kid who was obviously very sad and angry and who needed ALOT of help. I'm not saying I blame the police for the end result...I'm just saying - 13 yrs. old and in to alot of trouble in his last days....what a horrible waste.
Posted by: mrs. muddy at February 7, 2005 09:47 PMI see no evidence of him being gifted ina nything other than crime. Nor evidence of being sad or angry. In fact I see a lot of evidence of abject stupidity.
You're growing up in south central LA. You see guys getting shot all around you over women, drugs, cars, the price of fruit. You have a choice of working hard in school and doing whatever you can to get out of there or being just like the people you see around you.
He was stupid and decided to be like everyone else.
You ask me, and I say I'm damned happy he's dead. One less, murdering, thieving bottom feeder pushing daisies.

"Some of those who stopped by said Brown....at Audubon Middle School, where he was enrolled in a charter program for the gifted."
That's where I got the "gifted" from. Yes, I could be wrong...but I figured he was most likely enrolled in a gifted program for a reason.
"Nor evidence of being sad or angry."
It's true, we don't know the whole story about his father's death. Or even If he even got along with the guy but how would *you* feel if you were 13 (probably 12 at the time considering the father died a year ago) and you lost your father? You wouldn't feel anger to some degree or even sadness?
"Friends and neighbors said the teen had recently begun skipping school and spending time with gang members after his father's death last year."
Obviously, his father's death had quite an impact on him.
Look, whether he lived with his father or not or whether he got along with his father or not....only those who knew them truely know. I can tell you from personal experience that no matter what relationship you have with your parent(s), their death has a huge impact on your life no matter how old you are. If his father was estranged from him or close to him....in either case, the father's death would have caused some sort of anger. At 13 yrs. of age, he probably felt very abandond by him. Cheated that he didn't get to have more time. Yes, that *does* make a person - especially someone so young - very angry and sad (very possibly devistated even).
Believe it or not, I'm NOT making excuses for the boy's behavior but I *am* saying that someone (and maybe someone very well *did* try) could have tried to get him the help he needed.
"You ask me, and I say I'm damned happy he's dead. One less, murdering, thieving bottom feeder pushing daisies."
Murdering? Now, that's something that *I* didn't see any evidence of. Of course, here's where your next line will probably be something like..."When you're in a gang, you do end up commiting murder eventually.". Am I close? I do realize that, but they couldn;t even confirm he was even officially in a gang. Yes, I know it most likely would have only been a matter of time but....I guess we'll never know.
Happy that he's dead? A *13* yr. old kid? Ok? I could see relief but Happy? I'm Not judging you or anything but I am a bit surprised by that. Or maybe it's just a touchy subject all around. To each his own opinion, I guess.
Posted by: mrs. muddy at February 8, 2005 12:22 AMdoesnt suprise me at all he said it.
Posted by: mooseboy84 at February 8, 2005 02:18 AMI'm always happy when a predator bites the dust.
Posted by: skywalker at February 8, 2005 07:51 PMPredator and murderer. Well, I guess we'll have to wait until the story unfolds some more to see if that presumptuous picture you've painted is truely accurate.
In the mean time...shall I buy you a drink in honor of your glee? Go ahead...name your poison.
Posted by: mrs. muddy at February 9, 2005 12:11 AMI'll have a red headed slut, with a little extra jaeger in it.
BTW, my opinion comes from having dealt with kids like this.
Posted by: skywalker at February 9, 2005 08:49 AM"I'll have a red headed slut"
Are you talking about a girl or a drink or is it both?:-D Jaeger? Boy, am *I* out of the loop! (not like I was *ever* "in the loop" with that stuff.:-P ) I have no *clue* as to exactly what that is (though, I'm assuming it is a drink of *some* kind)....in any case, I'll do my best.:-D
"...my opinion comes from having dealt with kids like this."
Yeah, I figured it had something to do with that. I was just trying not to get too personal.
Posted by: mrs. muddy at February 9, 2005 10:21 AMYes, a red headed slut is a drink. It had jaegermeister (a dark, german, herbal liquor, tastes like black licorice, goes down like water, will make you forget basically everything exists - best served ice cold) peach schnapps (grain alcohol flavored with a fruit - in this cases peaches) and cranberry juice (any will do - oceanspray is what i usually see.) It's a nice drink when you're drinking socially. Though if someone knows of a girl...
"...will make you forget basically everything exists"
That explains SO much about you.:-)
