Maybe I should go back to eating hot dogs....that is, now that I know how to cook them the *proper* way - with a brand new "hot dog cooker".
Posted by: mrs. muddy at February 28, 2005 08:47 PMwho the hell would buy a machine just to cook hotdogs? LOL. then again, i have a food dehydrater sitting in the pantry.
btw, the only Proper way to cook hotdogs is to boil them.
Posted by: mooseboy84 at March 1, 2005 12:39 AMI came THIS CLOSE to putting this on my blog...and I would have to if it wouldn't have been for hose kids and that blasted dog! Wait, that had nothing to do with it.
When I went to post to my blog...my computer froze and crashed...do you know what the word "RETRO-BLOW" means? I knew you did.
Okay...hope all is well.
PEACE!

I thought it was over a camp fire.:-P
Posted by: mrs. muddy at March 1, 2005 06:48 AMPersonally, I prefer a campfire or a charcoal grill (with nice wood chips for flavoring!)
I had a food dehydrater too. I actually use it once in a while...dehydrated apples are great!
Posted by: skywalker at March 1, 2005 04:30 PMWhy hello young Skywalker. What's shakin'?
"..I prefer a campfire or a charcoal grill"
Actually, Muddy and I eat soy "Italian sausages". Yes, they probably sound gross to alot of people, but they're actually quite good. We pan fry ours sometimes and they turn out pretty decent. I'd like to try the grill with them though.
"I had a food dehydrater too."
I'd like to have one of those for pineapples and mangos.
I'm hungry.
Posted by: Undermidnight at March 2, 2005 08:01 AMi always Boil hotdogs because theyre salty, and if you cook then most other ways it concntrates the saltiness. sometimes when im starving a throw a sausage in the microwave. i have also been known to eat a kilbasa raw. that is from the packaga unheated, which you really shouldnt do because of listeria and other potential pathagens.
i have actually used the dehydrater before with good success. i made some salmon jerkey with it, as well as some simple dried fruit. it works well, but the stuff Drips down to the bottom and its hard to clean because you can removes the metal heating unit. mine is Really old so maybe they improved it. i still have used the thing in about 5 or 6 years though. maybe ill make some more salmon jerkey.
soy hot dogs? you people sure are a funny bunch. i thought patriotic americans from red states only ate beef. whats next, soy milk? TOFU? ann coulter is right, LIBERALS are ruining america. this is what happens when those kinds indoctrinate the youths of america with their "healthy lifestyle" propaganda.
Posted by: mooseboy84 at March 3, 2005 05:35 PM"whats next, soy milk? TOFU?"
Oh, yeah baby!:-D Been using that stuff for 5 years now (well, it'll be 5yrs. in June). Just made a cake AND a chocolate mousse with both Soy milk And tofu....and it kicks a**!:-) Tofu is the food chameleon so it blends perfectly with *anything* (I don't use it as much as I'd like but it works best when I want to use it in place of eggs).
Btw....my youngest drink rice milk too...I've never heard a complaint.
Posted by: mrs. muddy at March 3, 2005 06:39 PMi knew it. tofu today, green party activist tommorrow. your going to be like hillary clinton going from a young republican to whatever she is now.
i have actually consumed tofu and drank soy milk since i was a child. people nowadays have it easy. i remember only being able to buy soymilk that came in this plastic container that was UNflavored. no sugar, no vanilla, just PLAIN. it was not very tasty but it was better than nothing in cereal. nowadays you have tons of varietys and flavors. vitasoy you to be the only main producer of soymilk 8 or 9 years ago, now there are dozens of brands/types.
its the same with tofu. 15 years ago only hardcore types ate tofu. now they have tofu Everything. tofu chicken nuggets, cheese, hotdogs all kinds of stuff. it even taste better than it did years ago.
Posted by: mooseboy84 at March 5, 2005 08:04 PM"your going to be like hillary clinton going from a young republican to whatever she is now."
Nah, I don't see myself becoming a socialist b**ch hiding behind the face of the DNC.:-D Besides...I'm not a republican either....but then, compared to you......
But, I do agree that it is easier to eat healthier these days and you *do* have alot of variety. Unfortunately, it's not that easy on the wallet.:-/ Then again, nothing of good quality does come cheap (at least from *my* recollection).
Hillary Clinton was called a socialist by her college professors. Young republican is a bit of a stretch.
Never had tofu, don't plan to start having it. I'm just fine with my home madewhole wheat bread, my home madestrawberry jelly without any sugar in it. Now I just need home made peanut butter.
Posted by: skywalker at March 7, 2005 08:00 AM"Young republican is a bit of a stretch."
Well, suppossedly, she grew up in a republican household/surrounding (or something like that). At least, that's what I remember hearing *many* years ago from *somewhere*. Not sure how accurate it is but it does sound familiar to me. In any case, she's waaaaayyyyy out in left field now. No pun intended.
"Never had tofu, don't plan to start having it."
Well, I wouldn't suggest having it plain (though, some people steam it - I am *not* one of those people) as it is pretty tasteless that way. However, if you bake it in food with the rest of the ingredients, you can *rarely* taste the difference. To be more accurate, you can sometimes taste something lacking (like the eggs) but you can't taste the tofu (as it has no taste really) specifically. Besides, I've made my desserts for people before and have never mentioned I've put tofu in it (though, I do ask if they are allergic to anything first and I usually say that I ask because of the soy milk I use to make it with).....I've never had a complaint. I've recieved compliments but no complaints and that's when I usually fill them in on what they've just eaten.....they are usually very surprised. It's mind over matter is all. Most people convince themselves that tofu is a "tree huggers" delight...they usually have no idea that it blends very well with pretty much everything so they're amazed when they notice no difference themselves. Frankly, it's quite funny really. :-P
"Now I just need home made peanut butter."
There's natural peanut butter you can get at the stores. I'm not sure which kinds Kroger and Big Bear and all the others would sell but I like the kind we get. It takes a few weeks for the taste buds to get used to it but once they do...it's fine.
Posted by: mrs muddy at March 7, 2005 09:44 AMI said home made, not natural. Though my home made bread and jelly/jam is natural.
Posted by: skywalker at March 7, 2005 07:18 PM"I said home made, not natural."
Yes, dear, I realize that. I was trying to make things easier for you by helping you realize that you could get the peanut butter at the store for much less of a fuss than staying at home and making your kitchen into laboratory while screaming....
"It's alive, it's ALIVE!"
Ok...maybe that's being a *bit* dramatic there but I write it how it comes to me. :-)
Posted by: mrs.muddy at March 7, 2005 08:02 PMSee, thats the thing: I don't. I can't cook. Never could. I burn water. No, seriously.
My room mate cooks when we take the time to cook, and my home made stuff comes from my mom.
Posted by: skywalker at March 8, 2005 11:18 AMDamn...so if he moves out you're basically screwed, huh? :-D Either that or you'd go back home for every meal which would somewhat defeat the purpose of moving out to begin with.
I'm a decent cook but muddy says he's better so I just let *him* do the majority of it. I do like baking though....when I've got the time. Someday, you'll have to taste of one my cakes - that is, if you're not afraid of a little tofu temporarily in your diet - and with you being a marine, you should be man enough to handle it. :-P
BTW: You burn water, eh? Perfect...now throw some spagetti noddles in there- wait about 8-10 min. - drain and voila! You now have spaggetti!:-D Break open some wine, warm the sauce up and enjoy. Did that help? haha.:-P
Posted by: mrs. muddy at March 8, 2005 12:35 PMProblem is that if I throw the noodles in, they'll burn too. Same with the sauce.
There is one thing on this earth that might one day force me to marry: food.
Posted by: skywalker at March 8, 2005 02:51 PM"There is one thing on this earth that might one day force me to marry: food."
LOL...I told you to never say "never", didn't I? It just might keep you from starving one day.:-D Then again, (as I've mentioned tons of times before) look at me....I'm far from being chef material myself - but at least I can follow instructions and go on instincts as well. Maybe you can remain faithful to your bachelorhood and just hire a chef someday.:-)
"Problem is that if I throw the noodles in, they'll burn too."
Ok...I have THREE (3) words for you and the first one is:
Timer.....use a timer! When it buzzes/dings/beeps - or whatever - take it off the burner! :-D
The last 2 words are: Cooking leasons....then again some people are just cursed when it comes to cooking. I remember when my sister was a teenager to her early 20's, she couldn't fix jello to save her life. She'd follow instructions to the T (so she said anyway) and then would put it in the fidge to gel. 24 hours later, we'd *still* be drinking it through a straw. I think that's the only thing she had trouble with though.
Posted by: mrs. muddy at March 8, 2005 04:16 PMMymom is a GREAT cook...has tried to teach me... somehow nomatter what I do, it always gets messed up- even when I use a timer.
I think I could get away with eating out. Hell, the Marine Corps will always make sure I have food. So naw, I never have to get married.
Posted by: skywalker at March 8, 2005 09:30 PM"Mymom is a GREAT cook."
Great! Maybe she can send some tips along my way.:-)
If it makes you feel any better, I've actually heard some say that once they moved on their own, they became better cooks throughout the years because of necessity (not to mention trial and error). So, who knows...maybe one of these days, it'll just click for you. So see...there is *indeed* hope for you yet.:-)
Posted by: mrs. muddy at March 8, 2005 11:17 PMSmell that? Smells like bullsh--.
Posted by: skywalker at March 9, 2005 03:21 PMHahahaha
HEY! I'm just repeating what I've heard, mister...so don't get lippy with the messenger. I'll come down there and kick that marine a** of yours.:-P
Besides "Smells like bullsh--". eh? You're just jeallous because I *can* cook something....even if it is bullsh**.
