Smith and Wesson Model 500

I just went down to the range and fired 2 weapons. The first was a revolver, the Smith and Wesson Model 500, a .50 Magnum weapon. All I can say is wow.

It is every bit as big and mean as it looks, and it has the single biggest kick of any weapon I have ever fired - and I've fired many.

You should also keep in mind that I own and carry a Glock 30 which is a medium sized semi-automatic .45 ACP pistol. I'm used to some pretty big ammo. But this thing absolutely blew me away with the power. The round itself is about 2 inches long.

If you're wondering how I did with the 5 rounds I had, all 5 were in the center of the chest ont he target sillouhette from about 15 yards away.

The other weapon, was a Springfield Armory 1911/9mm. For a 9mm semi-automatic pistol, I'd say it was pretty fair. But 9mm pistols never really impress me and always seem weak. I would definitely rather fire it than the Beretta 9mm that the Marine Corps and Police Departments across the country issue. Much lighter frame than I am used to on any weapon and the first 3 rounds I fired missed center of mass by 2-3 inches, but the other rounds all hit center of mass.

If I didn't know any better - I'd think you were in love. And quite frankly....I don't think you two should be left alone for a very long period of time.

On a serious note....muddy and I have been talking about visting a range ourselves. What would you suggest for first timer such as myself? I'm sure the people there could give me some good advice but while we're on the subject....

First time shooter: 9mm. But don't buy one.

For personal defense, smallest I'd say is 10mm or .40. But I always say, the alternative spelling for death is .-4-5.
