Well, according to reuters it is. Plus, I also googled it and here's another article about it along with a picture of the inventer and the product (personally, the product looks pretty big - IMO).

Well, I don't know what the gun laws are like in South Africa (assuming they have them). Also, some women may not be close to their gun when some bastard tries to rape them.

Besides, if some guy is going to stoop to such evil as to force a woman into sex then I think he deserves everything he gets. PLUS - just like the article says, the only way to get it off would be a trip to the hospital where the authorities would then be notified. That's one way of being "caught in the act".

I like the idea.
However the thing is unlikely to be a complete success :

1 I wonder how much time it takes to put it on. I doubt you can put it before getting assaulted, so I suppose you'd have to wear it all the time, rather not practical. Especially if you have a regular sex partner (boyfriend, husband, whatever).
2 If many get to use it, I suppose rapists will turn to sodomy.
3 I don't think hospitals are allowed to turn in rapists, I think doctors have an obligation to keep secret any info they get on patients.

However if it can work, then that's cool.
(and I wonder if some women may use it voluntarily to hurt men who cheated on them or sth...)

I think you would be able to take it in and out as you please (they say it's worn like a tampon) so I would think one would wear it when they believe they would be most vulnerable....walking to work, or in any situation where you'd be alone and in a vulneralbe area (so to speak). So if one does have a regular partner....it should be no problem.

Well, I don't know how things work in Africa but according to my mom (she works in "in patient-out patient" care and also helps with the clinic and urgent care they have in the hospital) the way it works here is that the patient (victum) would have to file a report and then the proccess would go from there. Whatever files the police would need in the criminal invesigation then those medical files would be opened. However, from the very begining, though, any hospital personal could not be accusing towards any person ( like if the rapist were injured by their victum and had to go to the hospital as a result). The rapist could tell any story they wanted and the hospital would have to take their word - as far as that goes. That's why it's so important for any rape victum to file a complaint/ report so that the police could work on piecing the story together and end up filing charges.

When I told my mom about this new device she said it sounded interresting but that she couldn't say how it would eventually effect the legal matters of the hospital towards the criminal and the crime.

LOL...Well, I've never used a female condom before (it's my understanding their not that comfortable and even though I haven't really researched them myself, I don't know if they would be all that reliable.).

Ok....you *really* have to tell me how you figure that one because I gotta know. Quite frankly, I've never even seen one of those things "in person" before. Only on tv. Also, from what I'v heard...they're not very reliable either.
