The battle against Christmas

Christmas has become a treasured and beloved American icon. At this time of the year, how many of you fondly think back to your childhood and recall many precious memories of those times? I know I do. I still look forward to it: the true meaning of Christmas, the decorations, the aroma of Christmas cookies, the presents, the delicious feast, and the getting together with family--some of whom we may have argued with in the past, but at this time of the year, we seem to put it all behind us. We even become friendlier with strangers, don't we? It's a wondrous time of year.

Not for some. For a handful, like the ACLU (arguably the Against Christmas Liberties Union), it's positively the most offensive time of the year. It is a battle against Christmas. They're trying to take "Christ" out of Christmas. I believe it is a battle against you and your children.

cwilli note: If I have said it once, I have said it a thousand times; the ACLU is an evil organization with a clear cut goal to wipe out Christianity in our Country. This is just another example of this.

Buy your Christmas gifts from a small business and not a chain store. Keep the money here in America. Let a small business owner give his kids a good Christmas instead of going to someone who is already a millionair off the hard work of a someone else like you or me.

I have the perfect gift for the ACLU (or as *I* call them - the ACScrewU)...the Constitution. I figure it's about time they read it.

Go and complain about something else. You people whine about everything. This is like some idiots who protested a local Walmart, because they say "Happy Holidays" instead of Merry Christmas. Those damn athiest running Walmart are ruining this country. With there barely minimum wage and anti-christian fervor, that bans music and magazines they dont like. I hate those damn atheist Waltons!

"someone who is already a millonair off the hard work of a someone else like you or me."

So I see you are a socialist now. I thought I was reading wsws.org when I read that.

Damn millionaires always exploiting the workers.

"Damn millionaires always exploiting the workers."

Wow, and you sound like a conservative republican. LOL!

If you dont like the complaint, why dont you just reply with a complaint about the complaint.

Makes alot of sense doesnt it? About as much sense as your post.

Oh and Merry Christmas!

mooseboy:

The problem I have with some companies not allowing their employees to say "Merry Christmas" is that those same companies have told those same employees that they will be *fired* for doing so. It was my understanding that companies cannot do that. But then again...

Also, with the stupid "Holiday Trees" instead of Christmas trees. What other "holiday" other than *Christmas* are trees put up? I have NEVER personally ran into anyone who was offended for hearing about a *Christmas* tree. Nor have I ever personally heard anyone being offended when someone said "Merry Christmas". I *have* heard people say, "Thanks but I celebrate ????(whatever) instead.". But when asked if they were *offended* by the "Merry Christmas" wish, their answer was always a smile followed by a "No".

I think we should follow the advice Muddy and I heard from a caller a few weeks ago when this caller phoned into a radio talk show. He said that since everyone is selling *holliday* trees now we should go into those same stores *every* holiday and ask where are the "new year", valentines, st. Patrick, Easter, Memorial, mother's day, father's day, 4th of July (and so on) trees. I mean those ARE holidays so the stores should have them for EVERY actual holliday. With that in mind, maybe I should put up a tree now because now that they're "holiday" trees, I don't have to take them down after only 4 stinking weeks. I often thought about doing that anyway...now I'll actually be apart of a "trend" without even trying! Who knew I could be so hip! Oh Joy!!!

Just a side note: most wal-mart workers make a fair amount more than minimum wage. In fact, most wal-mart stores start employees out at $7.50-$8.50 an hour. Personally, if you don't like the wages, just don't work there.

Well, been a year since this blog was posted and while many retail outlets have surrendered, Best Buy is still fighting against Christmas.

So, I'm fighting back. When I heard about Best Buy's decision to ban Christmas greetings from their ad campaign this year, I thought about the Inns that turned Jesus away, and imagined Best Buy as one of these Inns. That led me to write and record this song:

Best Buy Inn
Dr. BLT
words and music by Dr. Bruce L. Thiessen, aka Dr. BLT (c) 2006

If you like the song, pass it on, or, better yet, forward the link to Best Buy.
