On July 25, 2001, blood-red rain fell over Kerala. The unusual phenomenon continued for two months, raining crimson, turning clothes pink, burning leaves on trees. In some places, the rain fell in scarlet sheets.
Scientists were shocked, and the government ordered an investigation. Scientists concluded that the rain was red because winds had swept up dust from Arabia and dumped it on Kerala. But Dr Godfrey Louis, a Reader in Physics at the School of Pure and Applied Physics at the Mahatma Gandhi University in Kottayam, Kerala, was not convinced.
He diligently gathered rain samples and, after months of painstaking research, concluded: 'The red particles, which caused the red rain of Kerala, are of extraterrestrial origin.'
His colleagues -- other scientists and physicists -- frowned at the conclusion. But Dr Louis stuck to his theory. His scientific conclusions have now received international support. Dr Milton Wainwright of the micro-biology Department at Sheffield University in Britain has been examining some of the particles of the red rain samples that hit Kerala. And he has come out in support of Dr Louis' theory that the rains could belong to an alien life form.

Posted by: muddy at March 8, 2006 12:04 PMIt is quite interresting. One of the reasons for his conclusion is no DNA is present in the molecules - which is fascinating. Don't you just LOVE DNA! It's so cool. Don't exactly know how evolutionists can be fueled by this (though I'm sure there's plenty of ways they'll come up with) but just like God created the heavens and the earth...so did He create every planet and everything on them too. Of course YOU understand that but......
Posted by: mrs. muddy at March 8, 2006 12:34 PMSo people who belive in evolution are "lunatics?"
What else do you belive, only Liberals brush their teeth?
They didnt have toothbrushes 2000 years ago, so therefor brushing your teeth must be something only liberals belive in. A god fearing person who follows the bible, shouldnt brush their teeth.
Posted by: mooseboy84 at March 8, 2006 04:38 PM"They didnt have toothbrushes 2000 years ago,"
Actually....they did:
"The toothbrush as we know it today was not invented until 1938. However, early forms of the toothbrush have been in existence since 3000 BC. Ancient civilizations used a "chew stick," which was a thin twig with a frayed end. These 'chew sticks' were rubbed against the teeth."
according to
http://www.loc.gov/rr/scitech/mysteries/tooth.html
and then there's also:
"The early history and evolution of the toothbrush has its origin in the "chewingsticks" used by the Babylonians as early as 3500 BC. Ancient Greek and Roman literature even discusses primitive toothpicks that were chewed on to help clean the teeth and mouth."

What can I say? You got me curious (plus I'm being a bit of "a take things literally smart a**" today). I just googled and there it was. I'm surprised you didn't do your homework before commenting:-P
"A god fearing person who follows the bible, shouldnt brush their teeth."
God fearing people also know that jeans, tennis shoes, car and phones where not used back then - but I'm not giving *mine* up.
Posted by: mrs. muddy at March 8, 2006 04:57 PMlol, how could I not love a woman like that. :-)
Posted by: muddy at March 8, 2006 06:18 PMEvolution in and of itself isn't lunacy. We can watch the aids virus evolve, as we can the common cold and influenze.
It's simple: DNA does mutate to some degree because hey, newsflash, earth isn't a closed system. When these mutations get passed on, hey new traits. These changes are basically minor though.
The controversy really is whether or not these mutations can cause species to be altogether changed. I would say no. But hey whatever floats your boat, in the end you have the same problem as a creationist so blah.
"The controversy really is whether or not these mutations can cause species to be altogether changed. I would say no."
I don't know. I once watched a guy go from a horses patoot to a complete jack ass in only a matter of months....does that count?:-)
Posted by: mrs. muddy at March 8, 2006 07:27 PMthat one is funny.
evolution is a fact.
Natural selection or darwinism is a theory trying to explain it.
IT goes 2 ways :
1 individuals species who do not fit their environment die and disappear.
2 There are spontaneous mutations in reproduction, hence species evolve one out another. Spontaneous mutations is now proven by the study of DNA
For instance it's easy to see that bacterias have become resistant to penicilin over the last 50 years.
Proving the theory is hard. There are huge gaps in the data on ancient species and it's difficult to explain radical change if there is radical change (that's not certain either).
Evolution : fact. Darwinism : theory.
Learn your lessons muddy, damn it, even skywalker get's it.

*Gasp* There was a "damn it" in there! Well, I guess I'm going to have to teach you a leason now, muddy my dear. This time I'm afraid I'm going to have to give you a spanking! Trust me....this will hurt you more than it hurts me.
Posted by: mrs. muddy at March 9, 2006 09:06 AMWhen I say evolution, I am referring to us starting as nothing and turning into humans.
Dammit
:-P
Posted by: muddy at March 9, 2006 09:33 AMBasteria got resistant to pencilin over the past 50 years???
Did you ever get a sunburn at the start of the sunny season? and then have it turn your skin darker, so it is more resistant to the sun next time around? Is that evolution?
Posted by: glenn at March 12, 2006 08:12 AMThat is 2 completely different things. Bacteria's resistance to penicillin is due to genetics. You skin isn't actually any more reistant to the sun either. It still burns just as easily. People simply have the perception it does. But back to genetics.
Gregory Mendel made some lovely discoveries with genetics by studying peas.
You see, human are a good example sinc ei know the most about them :-) we start with 2 cells of 13 chromosomes each. These Chromosome contain our genes. Some genes will be dominant, others recessive. Some potential genes are genes that have immunodeficiency disorders. These people are not likely to live long (well these days they are likely to live longer because we as humans have hearts and try to help our weaker members survive against nature) because nature will take them out with disease. They are less likely to pass on their genes. People without this disorder are likely to live and pass on their genes.
How did this disorder come about? A DNA mutation some where along the line. How does a mutation come about? Simnple: the sun. See, all energy essentially comes from the sun in some way shape or form. So the sun is constant introducing radiation to us as humans which is what causes cancer coincedently which is basically a gene mutation in and of itself. So anyhow, radiation causes genes to mutate and these mutations get passed on and eventually show up as traits. These are usually minor traits.
How does this work in bacteria? Simple, some bacteria has mutations making them stronger and harder to kill with penicillin. Thus they are more likely to pass on their genes and thus future generations of bacteria are resistant to the miracle drug.
You skin getting a tan were that to make you more resistant to sunburn (it DOESN'T!) would be because more layers of your skin were dead. Normally it is only the top layer. But those burns are basically radiation burns which is why people who don't use sunscreen have this tendency to get skin cancer: their dna mutated.
Thank you Glenn, have a nice day and find a new analogy.
Posted by: skywalker at March 12, 2006 03:45 PMOh and DF, you can hardly call the mutations spontaneous. Radiation from the sun causes problems in dna reproduction thus causing mutations. The energy from the sun is really quite magical thing is it not?
And btw folks, if there were not gene mutations, then there would be groups of people that looked exactly alike out there because there would be only so many permutations of the chromosome combinations.
