There have been very few times in my life (mostly as a child) when I actually *liked* "April Fool's Day". I always thought how stupid it was (not to mention mean) that one day out of the year was used to serve the *stupidest* pranks to poor unsuspecting people. Of course, there was that one time when one of my cousins walked to a neighbors house and called my uncle in a disguised voice convincing him he had just won the lottery. Another cousin who was also in on the joke (as were the rest of us because it wasn't *that* hard to figure out) let it go on long enough to see my uncle get the keys to his van and head towards the door before finally letting him in on the prank. It was a mean one (considering their financial situation and considering I put myself in my uncle's shoes and realized that I wouldn't want it done to me) but even *I* had to admit that one was a little funny (considering how gullible my uncle is - or at least *was* at the time).
I've often thought to myself - where *did* this stupid "tradition" come from? Well, a few years ago, curiosity killed the cat and I finally looked up it's origin (or at least it's close enough). Enjoy:
