
The IDF said the flyover, carried out by four planes flying in a low-altitude pattern, was a part of an overall IDF operation aimed at pressuring the Syrian leadership to expel Hamas Politburo chief Khaled Mashaal from Damascus.
According to Israel, Mashaal has been calling the shots out of the Syrian capital and orchestrated the kidnapping of IDF soldier Gilad Shalit.
Syria responded by saying that its air defenses opened fire on the warplanes, forcing them to flee.

Oh come on Israel, sonic boom fly overs are so last decade, try something new for a change. I suggest a fly by at low speed with a crop duster, however fill it with urine. You could also do parachute drops of bacon all over the country, see how many muslims you could get to eat pork. :-P

If I was Syria, I would shut the planes down.
