Gas Out On May 15th....

My hubby has been too busy with work to post this, so I shall do it for him. For all who are living in the U.S, I'm REALLY not trying to turn this into a political debate. We all have our views on why prices are the way they are and we feel very pasionately about those views. However, it's really not the point. The point is that we're SICK of this and it's time we take a stand! So without further delay:

In April 1997, there was a "gas out" conducted nationwide in protest of gas prices. Gasoline prices dropped 30 cents a gallon overnight.

On May 15th 2007, all internet users are to not go to a gas
station in protest of high gas prices. Gas is now over $3.00 a gallon in
most places. There are 73,000,000+ American members currently on the internet network, and the average car takes about 30 to 50 dollars to
fill up. If all users did not go to the pump on the 15th, it would take $2,292,000,000.00 (that's almost 3 BILLION) out of the oil
companies pockets for just one day, so please do not go to the gas station on May 15th and lets try to put a dent in the Middle Eastern oil
industry for at least one day.

If you agree resend this to all your contact list. With it saying, ''Don't pump gas on May 15th".

I don't think that's a good idea, and the figures are skewed. For one thing, not everybody buys an entire tank of gas each day. Usually when somebody buys gas, it's because his tank is near empty and he needs to go somewhere. Putting it off for a day only -- puts it off for a day. The next day, the oil companies would see double sales. The only way to "take money out of their pockets" would be to quit driving at all, but that's exactly what the ecofascists and hippies want us to do. So you're going to pay $3+ for gas; deal with it.

"So you're going to pay $3+ for gas; deal with it."

HMMMMMM....what's that two letter word I'm trying to think of right now? Oh....don't tell me - it's right there on the tip of my....OH YEAH!

NO!

I'm NOT going to "deal with it"! LOL

Let's look at the bottom line. Well to me anyway it's about getting everyone together and empowering them to understand that we DO have a voice that WILL make a difference IF we ban together. Look - I'm not stupid nor am I living in a fantasy world. I wish it WOULD take billions of dollars out of their pockets but to think it would is ridiculous and unrealistic. It's just to call attention to the powers that be and says things to the degrees of, "In this modern day time when the democrats and republicans are trying to tear this country apart putting everyone at odds with each other - we can STILL find something that we can agree on and stand together on."

I see what you're saying finacially speaking. It makes sense - but again, that's not *my* personal point. Whether it seems to be something small or major - people still can make a difference. I'm sure there will be more people than none who get gas tomorrow. I will NOT be one of them. People have to start somewhere even if it seems small and non impacting.

Unfortunately, I'm a bit drawn out today in explaination and talk. (NO one better make a comment about that). To the point (that I'm sure you've gotten by now):

If you encourage people to become passionate about the small things it won't be too long before they become passionate about the bigger things. Unfortunately it seems that most of the time what we as Americans become passionate on is our loathing for the opposite political side. The politicians encourage this everyday....because THEY hate each other. We've lost our focus. And it's nice to have some kind of a common ground to focus on.

I dont know if it is coincidental or not, but this morning I noticed gas at a local arco station [owned by BP] was 6 cents cheaper than yesterday. It was 3.39 yesterday, and now is 3.33 this morning. I just felt that was a bit intresting, since this is supposedly the gas out day.

I don t understand how you proponents of the free market can oppose high oil prices.
This is just supply and demand.
Less supply (also because of stupid US lead wars) growing demand (also because of stupid lack of US energy policies) lead to higher oil prices.

As Jason post : travel less, buy more fuel efficient cars, use more public transportation, build more fuel efficient houses etc.

You have a choice, turn into europeans, or pay high oil price.

I think those who should complain are us europeans. We pay oil twice the US price, because thank God we tax it since it is a rare resource that needs to be spared, and we pay a high price just because the US citizens are unable to learn the words energy efficiency and behave like pigs rushing for their energy source with no ability to spare, think and prepare for the future ...

You drink oil like fools and we pay high prices even though we are more sober. There is the problem...
Hopefully high prices will do their jobs and some day you will learn not to be spendthrift.
I suppose Asia will have to stop financing the US wars if it is to ever happen on a large scale.

Yeah, I went to BP myself on the 14th and paid 3.19 a gallon. I drove by another BP today on the opposite side of town and it went down 5 cents to 3.14....I thought it was interesting myself. Unfortunately, there were about as many people there as there usually are. I pretty much expected that though.
