School Expels Girl for Having Gay Parents

ONTARIO, Calif. - A 14-year-old student was expelled from a Christian school because her parents are lesbians, the school's superintendent said in a letter.

Shay Clark was expelled from Ontario Christian School on Thursday.

"Your family does not meet the policies of admission," Superintendent Leonard Stob wrote to Tina Clark, the girl's biological mother.

Full Story @ Yahoo! News

All I can say is that this "Christian" school's administration is full of a bunch of jerks! And THAT'S putting it very nicely. I read a similar story about a year ago where a girl was expelled because her mother was a stripper!

Who cares!!! What place does *any* school have to say that someone's family does not meet their judgmental requirements! Jesus accepts all and loves all so who are they to make exceptions.

Look...it's no secret to anyone who frequents "muddysmind" that we don't agree with the homosexual lifestyle but we also know it's not our business (nor do we care) what two people do in the privacy of their homes (as long as it's consensual and no children are involved). Besides, that's not even the point. No matter what that schools position is on homosexuality (or any other lifestyle choice), it's just wrong, vicious, and bullying to make an innocent child pay for it. Shame on you 'Ontario "Christian" School' and others like you. You make me vomit!!!! -Ed

Katrina Takes a Toll on Truth, News Accuracy

BATON ROUGE, La. — Maj. Ed Bush recalled how he stood in the bed of a pickup truck in the days after Hurricane Katrina, struggling to help the crowd outside the Louisiana Superdome separate fact from fiction. Armed only with a megaphone and scant information, he might have been shouting into, well, a hurricane.

The National Guard spokesman's accounts about rescue efforts, water supplies and first aid all but disappeared amid the roar of a 24-hour rumor mill at New Orleans' main evacuation shelter. Then a frenzied media recycled and amplified many of the unverified reports.

"It just morphed into this mythical place where the most unthinkable deeds were being done," Bush said Monday of the Superdome.

Full Story @ Los Angeles Times

[sarcasm]Huh, imagine that. The news was "inaccurate" on it's reporting. How out of place is that? -Ed[/sarcasm] -Ed

FDA official quits over morning-after decision

WASHINGTON - The highly regarded women’s health chief at the Food and Drug Administration resigned Wednesday in protest of her agency’s refusal to allow over-the-counter sales of emergency contraception.

Assistant Commissioner Susan Wood charged that FDA’s leader overruled his own scientists’ determination that the morning-after pill could safely be sold without a prescription, and stunned his employees last week by instead postponing indefinitely a decision on whether to let that happen.

“There’s fairly widespread concern about FDA’s credibility” among agency veterans as a result, Wood told The Associated Press hours after submitting her resignation Wednesday.

“I have spent the last 15 years working to ensure that science informs good health-policy decisions,” Wood, director of FDA’s Office of Women’s Health, wrote in an e-mail about her departure to agency colleagues. “I can no longer serve as staff when scientific and clinical evidence, fully evaluated and recommended by the professional staff here, has been overruled.”

Full Story @ MSNBC.com

Ok...here's what I don't get.
1) Regular birth control pills consist of the same hormones that are found in this morning after pill. The difference? Regular birth control pills have a period of 21 days in which the hormones are spaced out AND you DO need a prescription to buy them. This morning after pill comes in the form of two (2) pills that have to be taken 12 hrs. apart from one another AND they have not *only* the same hormones that regular birth control pills have BUT they have these hormones in a much HIGHER dosage. AND they want to make it to where you can buy these pills *without* a prescription? Am I the only one who thinks this doesn't make sense?

2) With that in mind, I think this is a potentially very dangerous situation for some women (as these pills have similar warnings found in regular birth control pills such as women who have severe liver disease should not take this product) to be taking these morning after pills without a prescription. What if they *do* have certain diseases (liver, porphyria) that have not been detected yet. This is one of the reasons why when women get put on regular birth control, doctors like to do follow ups every few months to a year (depending on your history) so they can do little things like - taking your blood pressure, your temperature and asking questions about your body's adjustments and reactions to the pill to make sure your body is accepting it well. Which brings me to my 3rd point....

3) Some of these women may NOT be on regular birth control and may not seek follow up treatment with their family doctor. I think this is more likely to happen to girls under 18 as their family doctor would have to notify their parents, therefore if this morning after pill would become available to these girls, and they *did* start to experience certain unusual symptoms, they would probably be even less likely to do a follow up with their doctor for the fear that their parents would definitely find out.

But, ok...go ahead, some of you - tell me how I'm over reacting and that the "morning after" pill has no need for a prescription. Come on....I know you want to.... so let 'er rip....

Evolution Pundits afraid of competition

A landmark legal trial begins on Monday that could determine how the theory of evolution - one of the basic tenets of modern science - is taught in US schools.

In the town of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, 11 parents of children who already attend the nearby Dover High school or who will in future, together with the American Civil Liberties Union, are suing the Dover Area School District for voting in new rules that will encourage children to consider alternatives to evolution such as “intelligent design” (ID).

Full Story @New Scientist?

I don't know how a "theory" can be taught as being the only option. Seems like the U.S. is not as free and open a society as we like to make believe. -Ed

Oh yea baby, Linux now powers a sweet handheld multimedia device. (AND it plays Ogg!, w00t!)
Maybe this is what I've been needing, sounds very interesting. Running on 2x AA batteries, plays back approx eight hours of video or fourteen hours of audio, does open source gaming as well.

Sweet.

Glock

Among the many things my friends and I talk about, our handguns are among them. And while we all disagree on various things, one thing we all can agree is that we love our Glocks. Some of us prefer the full-size, some the sub-compact (I prefer the compact which is the middle size.) We mostly can agree on the .40 and .45 ACP calibers - I own a .45 ACP, the Glock 30. And we also can agree that it is without a doubt, the most reliable handgun in the world. I personally have never seen one jam. Nor do I personally know anyone who has (though, I'm told the can, but usually it is a feed problem.)

This leads me to wonder, why the heck isn't the US military using them? I mean really, the 9mm Beretta has been a disaster. It's unreliable and it has no stopping power (and yes, I have fired it.) And, chances are, if you have fired one, then you've had it "bite" you. In fact, it's such a horrid weapon, that special operations units have gone BACK to the Colt 1911, though a slightly modified version. Even MEU(SOC)'s are using the 1911 again.

Seriously, why are we continuing to use the Beretta, which sucks, and not using a Glock 22 or a Glock 21? It can't be cost, since the Glock is comparable.

Two days in a row? It must be God.

Again tonight, working late and in search for a quality cup O' joe.
Walk into my favorite Caribou Coffee up north and see my favorite crew working.
After chatting it up a bit I ask for one of their tasty looking raspberry and chocolate pastries. They tell me they can't sell them to me because they are expiring that night and have to be thrown out. So instead they gave me, all three!
Then in my usual smart ass way I said "how about a free cup O' joe to go with these beauties", they said sure why not. w00t!
Man I tell you what, two great nights of free (quality) coffee and eats, life is good.

Stauff's to the rescue

So there I was, driving around late at night in search of food. My first attempt was Timmy Ho's to get a bowl of veggie soup, of which they had none. Next up was Panzera Pizza, who promptly locked his door and flipped the "closed" sign upon seeing me walk up to the door. (dirtbag) At last I ended up at Stauff's, Columbus's premier coffee roaster/house. Knowing they were also closing I did not hold out hope. I walked into an empty store and asked if they had any coffee left. The wonderful ladies said, they still had some left but could not charge me as they had already closed out their register.I thought I was rejected again, but it was not to be. They told me that they could give me the coffee, so not to pass up on their charity I inquired how much for a muffin, it was free as well.
God works in mysterious ways, and Stauff's rocks!

Anti-rape condom aims to stop attacks

KLEINMOND, South Africa (Reuters) - A South African inventor unveiled a new anti-rape female condom on Wednesday that hooks onto an attacker's penis and aims to cut one of the highest rates of sexual assault in the world.

"Nothing has ever been done to help a woman so that she does not get raped and I thought it was high time," Sonette Ehlers, 57, said of the "rapex," a device worn like a tampon that has sparked controversy in a country used to daily reports of violent crime.

**I bookmarked this page about 2 weeks ago (as you can tell from the date of the artilce) and just forgot to post it. All I can say to the inventor of this product is..."YOU GO GIRL!!!!"

Speicher Investigatin Efforts Continue

WASHINGTON - The Navy has been unable to determine whether Capt. Michael "Scott" Speicher, the fighter pilot shot down over Iraq in January 1991, is dead or alive, but it decided to keep his official status "missing/captured" and intensify investigative efforts.

Read the story at Yahoo!/AP

*Editor's Note*
I don't know what Capt. Speicher is still alive. In fact I wouldn't be surprised if his body is among the thousands in mass graves. However, I also have zero doubt that he survived that missile strike and subsequent ejection. Many former Iraqi prisoners claim to have seen many American POWs in Iraqi prisons in post Gulf War I Iraq. More than one has mentioned him by name without prompting. It is believed he was even held at the now notorious Abu Ghraib. With all that said, Americans in general, but his family in particular deserves to know his fate, whatever it may have been, or may yet be.

Naruto Hitting U.S. Airwaves

Well, my favorite anime is coming, and not in a good way. After watching All 150 episodes of Naruto in it's native Japanese subtitled in english I will find it a challenge to accept the new dubbed english version.

Sometimes an anime can pull off the transition, however the voice acting in Naruto is out of this world, I really doubt American's dubbing it can do it justice.

I guess we will wait and see.

I'm considering making .ogm rips (I will make them for myself at least) and putting them on the tracker, if anyone would be interested in hosting them that would take a huge load off my already tapped bandwidth.

In case your a naruto fan and don't already know about narutofan.com it's a must have for your bookmarks.

Oh, on a side note, I'm getting close to being done with all 25 episodes of FullMetal Alchemist if anyone is interested in having those up on the tracker.

Man Claims Child Rapist Murders

(AP) A man turned himself in to authorities in the killing of two convicted child rapists, saying he picked the victims from a sheriff's Web site, police said.

Michael Anthony Mullen, 36, called police Monday to claim responsibility for the killings, and officers who talked to him said he gave information that only the killer would know, according to a police news release. He was jailed for investigation of two counts of first-degree murder.

Hank Eisses, 49, and Victor Vasquez, 68, were found shot to death at their apartment Aug. 27. They were both classified as the type of sex offenders considered most likely to reoffend. Sex offenders in Washington are required to register with local authorities, and the information is posted on the Web.

cwilli note: Now this guy had the right idea. I only wished he would have continued on killing more child rapists. He could have been kind of a superhero. I dont understand why he just stopped at two and turned himself in. The sad part is that this guy will get the death penalty while perverts the Micheal Jackson go free. What a screwed up world. The only comfort that I get is that it doesnt matter what happens on earth, peverts like Jackson will have face his maker eventually. Nobody can escape that justice.

Twisted Views

While spending my usual fist minutes after waking up browsing news.google.com, I came across this disturbing piece by Mr. Oliphant of the Boston Globe.

In it he says the following :

"The question -- now that President Bush has an opportunity that no president has had since Richard Nixon broke true-blue conservative hearts some 34 years ago -- is whether there is a conservative doctrine that can guide the Supreme Court and bring the country along politically in its wake. If there is, the stakes for Rehnquist's successor, and Justice Sandra Day O'Connor's as well -- not to mention the country -- are huge."

Now, my understanding from reading over the founding documents is that the Supreme Court shall be responsible for hearing cases, not dictating political doctrine, adhering to, adding to, producing or taking any part in political activity whether conservative or liberal.

So where does Mr. Oliphant get his twisted view of our Supreme Count from?
Again and again uneducated, unprepared and ignorant people are somehow given full
access to our nations press, perpetrating lies and half truths.

However such activity is protected, as is my right to correct them.

The State of American Government

How many Americans have ever read the Declaration of Independence?
I wonder if the common man would see the things that I do.

The multitude of our brothers and sisters who have over the centuries given
their lives for our freedom. Would they recognize what we call the government today?
Intriguing is one of the many points listed that caused a people to stand up and physically fight
their leaders was something we accept today.

*For imposing Taxes on us without our Consent

How many times has the government raised taxes, whether fuel, "sin", sales or otherwise without
any vote.
Another point was brought to light recently when the so called Supreme Court decided they should make laws. This was also something that our forefathers stood up against.

*For taking away our Charters, abolishing our most valuable Laws, and altering fundamentally the Forms of our Governments.

Their arrogance was quite obvious when the Court decided if someone wants to build a resort, Hotel or other "public" establishment they could kick people off their land and bulldoze their homes.
That was never part of the law, however it is their bastardized version of it, and now law.

I do not claim that Mr. Bush is sole responsible for the shell of a government that we currently have presiding over us. However he is but heir to it. A slow, meticulous and dangerous mutation has occurred right under our noses.

It is time to educate our country, make known our grievances to our representatives and pray that God has mercy on us.

Mayor to feds: 'Get off your asses'

(CNN) -- New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin blasted the slow pace of federal and state relief efforts in an expletive-laced interview with local radio station WWL-AM.

The following is a transcript of WWL correspondent Garland Robinette's interview with Nagin on Thursday night. Robinette asked the mayor about his conversation with President Bush:

NAGIN: I told him we had an incredible crisis here and that his flying over in Air Force One does not do it justice. And that I have been all around this city, and I am very frustrated because we are not able to marshal resources and we're outmanned in just about every respect.

You know the reason why the looters got out of control? Because we had most of our resources saving people, thousands of people that were stuck in attics, man, old ladies. ... You pull off the doggone ventilator vent and you look down there and they're standing in there in water up to their freaking necks.

And they don't have a clue what's going on down here. They flew down here one time two days after the doggone event was over with TV cameras, AP reporters, all kind of goddamn -- excuse my French everybody in America, but I am pissed.

You Want How Much a Gallon?

CHICAGO, Sept. 1 - At a downtown Marathon gasoline station here, gas prices did something strange in the wake of the deadly Hurricane Katrina - they fell 25 cents a gallon, to $3.45, for regular unleaded fuel.

The dealer, Jim Klun, dropped his prices Thursday after Marathon Petroleum, the company that supplies his gasoline, admitted through a distributor Wednesday that it had increased prices too much in the confusion that has gripped gasoline suppliers and retailers all over the country since Monday's storm.

Far from the devastation that caused flooding in New Orleans and other cities along the Gulf Coast, Mr. Klun is one of many dealers caught between oil companies and angry consumers.

Problem solved : Bad Memory

If your box starts to lock up at unexplainable times, programs dump for unknown reasons.
Run Memtest86 and do it for more than five minutes like I had at first.

After several weeks of random lockups and programs crashing for no clear reason.
I ran Memtest again last night, and behold after nineteen minutes it started to spew errors like a baby rejecting formula.

I yanked the memory, setup an RMA and pulled memory from another box, now I'm back in business.

Remember kids, if it's random errors and not heat related, it's probably memory.

Thanks to Newegg.com for the online RMA process, worked out good for me, sending back the bad sticks today.
